OVERLAND PARK, KS - The ACLU of Kansas strongly opposes SB208 and urges the Kansas Senate to see this bill for what it is: a baseless attack on transgender youth that is both deeply harmful and unlawful.
To the transgender girls and women in Kansas who want to be treated with dignity: we support you. We have your back. You belong, you are valued, and the ACLU of Kansas will fight for you.
SB208 plainly violates the U.S. Constitution and federal law. It undermines the authority of athletic governing bodies, singles out transgender women and girls for disparate treatment, and is based on flawed understanding of human biology. But more importantly, it is dangerous. It is dangerous for our youth, and dangerous for our state. As we have said since this bill was first introduced, if the Kansas legislature wants to push through these sorts of baseless attacks on trans existence, the ACLU of Kansas will see you in court.
