On June 21, 2021 the ACLU of Kansas of Kansas sent a letter to UberEats imploring them to change a dangerous policy regarding trans drivers using their app. Our client is a trans man who wanted his profile to reflect his correct name and pronouns. UberEats policy dictated he must produce ID with his correct name; as he has not yet changed his name legally, this was not possible. Our client believes this resulted in him receiving lower tips and fewer rides; he also was subjected to harassment and ridicule as a result of this policy. This policy serves no public safety rationale. Uber claims to support the LGBT community; it is time for Uber to make these commitments and ideals concrete by enacting changes to better protect and support transgender drivers across the Uber and UberEats platforms.
