D.C. is a Civil Liberties Fellow at the ACLU of Kansas, where they work on enforcing and expanding the rights of LGBTQ+ people in Kansas.
D.C. graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law with Pro Bono Distinction in 2021. During law school, D.C. was a dedicated LGBTQ+ rights advocate, co-founding a gender marker and name change clinic for transgender Kansans, expanding gender neutral restroom access on campus, and serving as president of the law school’s LGBTQ+ student organization. D.C. was the recipient of the 2020-2021 PSJD Pro Bono Publico Award, recognizing their dedication to pro bono public service, as well as the Samuel Mellinger Scholarship, Leadership, and Service Award and the Be You at KU Student of the Year Award.
D.C. is a lifelong Kansan and received their undergraduate degree from Newman University, where the played softball. After law school, D.C. clerked for the Hon. Jacy J. Hurst on the Kansas Court of Appeals. D.C. enjoys pet pictures, Johnny Cash, and the farmer’s market. They are licensed to practice in Kansas.
