Court Declines to Rule on Constitutionality of Kansas Death Penalty and Death Qualification
Both individuals who brought the challenge no longer face a death sentence

Just last week this same body claimed we must subject the Supreme Court to partisan elections in order to hear from voters—and yet today they silence those same voters by passing SB 4 into law.
This is a blatant attack by the legislators on our justices, and it’s part of a decades-long pattern of politicians attempting to punish the judicial branch for issuing decisions on education and reproductive freedom that they disagree with."
We remain unconvinced that this legislature understands the real concerns and constitutional protections afforded to everyday Kansans, and their rush to push this government intrusion through demonstrates it all the more. This was an extremist, shameful attack on Kansans.
With new civil liberties abuses coming to light daily and the Trump administration’s hubris showing no signs of abating, the American Civil Liberties Union will host a town hall this Presidents’ Day.
